The iPhone Flip isn’t in Apple’s immediate plans — but plans have a way of changing over time. While you’re probably not going to see a foldable iPhone this fall alongside the debut of the iPhone 13, Apple is undoubtedly interested in challenging foldable phones from Samsung and others with a device of its own. And we’ve seen the patents to prove it.
The iPhone Flip may not be shipping any time soon, but this promising category is evolving. Just this month, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, the latest versions of its foldable phones. That gives Samsung a formidable lead over Apple in the race to build the best foldable phone.
Then again, Apple doesn’t mind arriving with a product after its rivals so long as it can deliver something better. And the Apple foldable phone patents, along with concept drawings from independent designers, suggest that Apple can really make its mark with the iPhone Flip.
